Eye Health Q & A

When should I see an eye doctor?

If you don’t need corrective lenses, you should have a comprehensive eye exam every two years. Many eye diseases don’t cause symptoms in their early stages. The team provides state-of-the-art screening tests to assess your eye health.

You should have an annual eye exam if you wear corrective lenses to make sure that your prescription is correct and for the team to monitor your eye health.

Additionally, if you develop symptoms like blurry vision, shadowed vision, or a waterfall of “floaters,” you should make an appointment at Vision Corner right away.

What is Optomap?

Optomap is an innovative digital retinal screening technology. It has an ultra-wide scope that allows the team to examine your retinas without having to dilate your pupils.

Your retina is the tissue at the back of your eye where light focuses and is converted to signals that travel along your optic nerve to your brain. Problems with your retina can lead to blindness when undiagnosed and untreated.

Some of the diseases that the team can diagnose with Optomap include:

  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Glaucoma
  • Hypertension

These diseases cause a variety of problems with your retina, including abnormal blood vessel growth, fluid leakage, and scarring. Fortunately, most eye diseases can be treated or managed when caught early to protect your vision.

What is Optovue OTC?

Optovue OTC is a rapid, noninvasive CT scan that provides information about the shapes and structures of your eye.

OCT scans generate high-resolution, cross-sectional, and 3D images of your retina, optic disc, and anterior segment. This test is another valuable diagnostic tool for the team to diagnose AMD, retinopathy, and glaucoma.

How can I take care of my eye health?

You can take several steps to protect your eye health. For example, maintaining your physical health and managing conditions like hypertension and diabetes can reduce your risk of eye disease.

You should also consume a nutritionally dense diet to ensure you ingest all the vitamins and nutrients your eyes need. You should also:

  • Avoid cigarettes and other tobacco products
  • Take hourly breaks when working at a computer
  • Get enough sleep
  • Wear sunglasses
